MESA (Math Engineering Science Achievement) is known for its innovative projects and hardworking students who give their all to represent L.A. High. This year, the prosthetic arm project’s team took 1st place in the Los Angeles City competition at USC on April 28th winning 1st in performance and board presentation. This earned them the chance to represent Los Angeles in the State competition, held in Fresno on May 16th.

Last time this occurred was two years ago when the prosthetic arm team won first in City and State, and, overall, second in the nation. Last year, the team also made it to the State Competition, but received second place.

“It was fun, challenging, and tiring. It’s really hard to use a prosthetic arm, and it takes time to learn how to use it,” said Jonelle Mendoza, senior and MESA member since 9th grade. He, Sewon Kang, Diana Guzman, and Andrew Ah were on the prosthetic arm team.

The team earned 3rd place at the State Competition.
