April19mus2webLos Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) has discovered it is surrounded by engaged communities working to make their neighborhoods better and safer. In an effort to bring greater awareness in those communities to the rich cultural resources at the museum, they have begun a community outreach program.
Every decade a new gallery district springs up in LA like a mushroom patch and currently West Adams is it. The museum decided to dovetail their outreach to this historically African American community with their retrospective of Charles White, an African-American mid-century artist. They partnered with local community organizers West Adams Family to offer discounted tickets and events to West Adams residents for a weekend of museum discovery.
