LAPD Wilshire Division Captain Rolando Solano

Beginning March 21, 2016, Captain Rolando Solano will be taking over for Captain Howard Leslie III as the commanding officer for the Wilshire Division. Captain Leslie, commanding officer for the Wilshire Division since 2013, is being transferred to Central Division. “I am coming in to the Wilshire Division with a clean slate in mind,” said Captain Solano.

A native Angeleno, Captain Solano brings over 25 years of experience to his new position. His experience includes assignments in Foothill, West Valley, Van Nuys, Central, Metropolitan Division, and West Los Angeles Patrol Divisions. He has also served in the Robbery Homicide Division’s Rampart Corruption Task Force, Internal Affairs Special Operations Sections, Officer-in-Charge of the Van Nuys Vice unit, and Sergeant in the Metropolitan Division, which included a loan as the Adjutant to the Deputy Chief of Special Operations Bureau.

According to the LAPD website, while in Central Vice, Solano initiated abatement proceedings against several drug and prostitution ridden motels. These abatements eventually cleared the area for the establishment of the Staples Center/LA Live entertainment properties. In 1996, he was selected as an element member for a crime suppression platoon in the Metropolitan Division where he received the Police Commission Meritorious Unit Citation for teamwork during his deployment at the “North Hollywood Bank of America Robbery.”

In March 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant at Southwest Area where he was assigned as a Watch Commander, Administrative Lieutenant and Assistant Officer-in-Charge of Southwest Detectives. In April 2009, he was selected as the Lieutenant II Officer-in-Charge of the Ethics Enforcement section, Professional Standards Bureau. On January 1, 2012, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and assigned as the Commanding Officer, West Los Angeles Patrol Division.

Although he is taking over for Captain Leslie with a clean slate in mind, he is not unfamiliar with the Wilshire Division and area. “I am very familiar with the Wilshire Division and area based on my experience as Detective in the Wilshire Division in 1999,” says Solano.  For Captain Solano, the most important thing to focus on during his tenure at the Wilshire Division will be on “quality of life issues in each Wilshire area community.”
