Friends of West Adams Association Chairman Ennis Beley and Secretary Mardi Roque were awarded certificates of appreciation for their service to the City of Los Angeles at a community meeting at Casa Longwood Nov. 21. Council District 10 Deputy Kimani Black presented Beley and Roque with a signed certificate of appreciation from Mayor Eric Garcetti and Council President Herb Wesson.
The certificates acknowledged Beley and Roque’s tireless efforts to improve the quality of life for residents of West Adams.
Surprised by the honors, Roque tearfully accepted her awards. “I’m not crying. I don’t cry,” she said as Black handed her the signed certificates.
Beley was equally surprised and honored. “When I came here, I was gonna mind my own business, let everyone else do their thing and I just do mine. What happened was, I met the people in the building and fell in love with the people in the building,” he said.
He thanked everyone for the certificates and stressed that the award belonged not only to him but also to everyone.
“It took you all to motivate us to make a change and do something different for our community. I thank you all for being a part of the selfless service I put in,” he added.
