Gunman Caught in Western Heights

When police stopped to question a man riding a bicycle along the sidewalk on Gramercy and 21st, they suddenly found themselves in hot pursuit. The suspect took off holding his hand to his pant waist, indicating there may have been a gun. He began hopping over fences and running through backyards along 21^st east of Gramercy. The police drew their guns as they scrambled up and down driveways in an attempt to corner the suspect.

Support and helicopters were called in and they finally apprehended the suspect on Washington Blvd.  A local resident's guest had seen the suspect jump into her yard while pulling the gun out of his pants. “It was like the movies!” he claimed. The suspect disappeared around the side of the building and after a few moments backtracked through the yard and hopped back over the fence. When the police came back with a police dog to search for the gun in backyards along 21st, the resident relayed the story and suggested that perhaps he had pitched the gun over the fence into the adjoining yard, before backtracking. Sure enough that was where it was found.
