LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Police are trying to determine how a dead body ended up at an intersection in the Mid-City area of Los Angeles Tuesday.

A man's body was discovered near a bus stop at Fairfax Avenue and Venice Boulevard shortly after midnight after a passing motorist spotted the victim lying in the street. A cause of death has not yet been determined, but police say it was definitely not natural causes.

Police are unsure if the man, identified as a Hispanic man in his 60s, was struck and killed by a passing car or if he was murdered. The victim suffered severe head trauma.

Authorities are hoping the public will be able to help them solve this case.

"Fairfax and Venice - it's a very busy thoroughfare, both going north into Hollywood, as well as people traveling southbound toward the freeway," said LAPD Det. Frank Carrillo.

Police are not releasing the victim's name pending notification of next of kin.
