Local resident Pete Carter has been hosting an afternoon of historical black films every last Friday of the month for 10 years.

The films exclude blacksploitation films and focus on gems from the early 1900’s up to the ‘60’s including work from great pioneer black directors like Spencer Williams (who also played Andy in ‘Amos n Andy tv show), Oscar Micheaux (director and producer of more than 44 films) and Noble Johnson who created his own all black film company and was the first to portray African-Americans as real people instead of racist caricatures.

October 28th’s offering is 1937’s“2 Gun Man From Harlem” directed by Richard C. Kahn. It’s a story about a cowboy wrongfully accused of murder who winds up in Harlem posing as a preacher turned gangster where he tries to infiltrate the gang holding the men who framed him. It stars Herb Jefferies who was known as the Black Singing Cowboy. At 98 years Herb is still touring and singing.

Every last Friday starting at Noon.
