Pico WINS Great Streets!

Mayor Eric Garcetti launched the Great Streets Initiative in October 2013 to transform streets across the city into more vibrant public spaces. The City received 37 applications from 99 partner organizations and Pico was one of 7 recipients to receive up to $13,000 for community outreach, and support by technical consultants and City staff in implementing transportation, economic, and cultural projects

A Great Street is a street that serves as the center of a neighborhood, where people can walk, meet, learn, and play on a daily basis. TNN says Great Job and the community sends Congratulations!

FROM PICO GREAT STREET COLLABORATIVE:

We won the city's Great Streets Challenge! Our submission, "Destination: Pico", was one of three "build" projects awarded (out of 28 applicants), which means the city will be funding up to half a million dollars in installed improvements on Pico.

What does this mean for our Great Street? In our application, we described what we've been hearing from you over the past year in our community meetings, surveys, and face-to-face conversations. You've told us, again and again, that you want Pico to be a destination for the community, a walkable and bikeable Great Street with vibrant public gathering spaces and thriving local businesses.

Over the next six months, we'll be leading an extensive outreach process to nail down the specific improvements we all want to see on Pico. We will work hard to involve as many of you as possible, so that together we can develop a vision for our Great Street that reflects the needs and desires of all the diverse elements of our community.

We are excited to be partnering with the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) and P.I.C.O. Neighborhood Council in our outreach efforts.

Our application was accompanied by 12 letters of support. We would like to thank the following individuals and organizations for lending their support to our Great Street:

Council President Herb J. Wesson, Jr.
Assemblymember Sebastian Ridley-Thomas
P.I.C.O. Neighborhood Council
Wilshire Vista Neighborhood Association
Wilshire Vista Heights Neighborhood Association
Picfair Village Community Association
Holy Spirit Catholic Church
Southern California Counseling Center
Little Ethiopian Cultural and Resource Center
Westside Jewish Community Center
Greater Miracle Mile Chamber of Commerce
