A road-rage incident on the 10 Freeway in the Mid-City area turned violent Thursday evening when a motorist fired at least two gunshots at another man near the La Brea onramp, according to police and a witness.
The shooting occurred about 5:30 p.m. after a driver apparently rammed his vehicle into another car in the westbound lanes close to where the onramp merges with the freeway, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
The two drivers, both men, got out of their vehicles and one of them pulled out a handgun. He fired at the other man, who was about 20 yards away, according to a woman who said she witnessed the incident from her car.
"I just saw him shoot twice," the woman said in a phone interview, asking not to be identified because she was frightened.
She said the gunman, who was driving what appeared to be a white BMW, ran down an adjacent hill. "He had his gun and a briefcase in the other hand," she said.
LAPD Officer Sara Faden said police were at the scene investigating and reported that it was unclear whether anyone had been hit by the gunfire.
Anyone with information is asked to call (877) LAPD 24-7 or (800) 222-8477.
