Before the shooting, officers “observed a possible robbery in progress by the gang member armed with a handgun,” around Mariposa and Pico Boulevard, according Mollinedo.
When the officers started to investigate, the suspect shot at them, then started running. The officers returned fire and chased the suspect onto the 2700 block of 14th Street in Harvard Heights.
After losing the suspect during the chase, officers created a perimeter around the area. K-9 officers found the suspect who fired at them. The officers returned fire and killed the suspect.
As of press time the investigation is ongoing.
